Sausalito

IN THE EARLY DAYS, drinking water was brought by barge from Sausalito to slake the thirst of the emerging Presidio of San Francisco. Other thirsts were satisfied when this village became the main drop-off point for smugglers during Prohibition.
Fishing village, railroad town, ferry terminus, military post, artist colony; this town with a checkered past is today primarily known as the closest bedroom community to San Francisco.
Besides having the coolest climate and quickest commute of any Marin community, Sausalito boasts the premier skyline views of the City.
If you are looking for good public schools, look farther north: if you want charm and a village life just minutes from San Francisco, look no further than Sausalito.
